ਭਾਈ ਤਾਰੂ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਹਾਦਤ ਅਤੇ ਜੀਵਨ – ਸਿੱਖ ਧਰਮ ਦਾ ਮਹਾਨ ਤਿਆਗ

ਭਾਈ ਤਾਰੂ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਸਿੱਖ ਧਰਮ ਦੇ ਉਹ ਮਹਾਨ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਸਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਹਾਦਤ ਦਾ ਸੰਦੇਸ਼ ਅੱਜ ਵੀ ਸਿੱਖ ਕੌਮ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਸ਼ਕਾਮ ਸੇਵਾ ਅਤੇ ਧਰਮ ਦੀ ਰਾਖੀ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਭਾਈ ਤਾਰੂ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ 1720 ਵਿੱਚ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹੇ ਦੇ ਪਿੰਡ ਪੋਹਲਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਸਿੰਧੂ ਜੱਟ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਨਮੇ ਸਨ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਭਾਈ ਜੋਧ ਸਿੰਘ ਇੱਕ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਸਿੱਖ ਸਨ, ਜੋ ਮੁਗਲ ਹਕੂਮਤ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਜੰਗਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਹੋਏ। ਮਾਤਾ ਬੀਬੀ ਧਰਮ ਕੌਰ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਰਵਰਿਸ਼ ਧਰਮਕ ਅਤੇ ਆਦਰਸ਼ ਸਿੱਖ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਸਿਧਾਂਤਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਕੀਤੀ।

ਪਿਛੋਕੜ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਵਰਿਸ਼
ਭਾਈ ਤਾਰੂ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਨਿਸ਼ਕਾਮ ਸਿੱਖ ਸਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਧਰਮ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਕੌਮ ਦੀ ਰਾਖੀ ਲਈ ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਹਰ ਪਲ ਸਮਰਪਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਰਵਰਿਸ਼ ਇਕ ਨਿਮਰ ਅਤੇ ਮਿਹਨਤੀ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਈ। ਭਾਈ ਤਾਰੂ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ‘ਤੇ ਮਿਹਨਤ ਕਰਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਦਾ ਗੁਜਾਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ, ਪਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਅਤੇ ਮਿਤਵ੍ਯਤਾ ਵਾਲਾ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਬਚਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਪੈਸੇ ਅਤੇ ਰਸਦ ਮੁਗਲ ਹਕੂਮਤ ਦੇ ਜ਼ੁਲਮਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਲਾਇਤ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਲਈ ਵਰਤਦੇ ਸਨ।

ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਛੋਟੀ ਭੈਣ ਬੀਬੀ ਤਾਰ ਕੌਰ ਵੀ ਸਿੱਖ ਯੋਧਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਈ ਤਾਰੂ ਸਿੰਘ ਨਾਲ ਨਿੱਤ ਸਾਥ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਸੀ। ਇਹ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਭੈਣ-ਭਰਾ ਸਿੱਖ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਹਿਯੋਗ ਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ਜੋ ਜੰਗਲਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੁਗਲ ਜ਼ੁਲਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਣ ਲਈ ਛੁਪ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਧਰਮਕ ਸਮਰਪਣ ਨੇ ਮੁਗਲ ਹਕੂਮਤ ਨੂੰ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਹੋਰ ਸਖ਼ਤ ਕਦਮ ਚੁੱਕਣ ਲਈ ਮਜਬੂਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।

ਮੁਗਲ ਹਕੂਮਤ ਵਲੋਂ ਪਕੜਾਉ
ਜੰਡਿਆਲਾ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇਤ ਹਕੀਕਤ ਦਾਸ, ਜੋ ਇੱਕ ਮੁਗਲ ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਮੁਖਬਿਰ ਸੀ, ਨੇ ਭਾਈ ਤਾਰੂ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਅਤੇ ਬੀਬੀ ਤਾਰ ਕੌਰ ਦੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਦੇਣ ਦੀ ਰਿਪੋਰਟ ਮੁਗਲ ਹਕੂਮਤ ਦੇ ਨਾਜ਼ਮ ਜਾਕਿਰਿਆ ਖ਼ਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ, ਭਾਈ ਤਾਰੂ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਨੂੰ ਲਾਹੌਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਗਵਰਨਰ ਜਾਕਿਰਿਆ ਖ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਰਬਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ।

ਭਾਈ ਤਾਰੂ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ‘ਤੇ ਇਲਜ਼ਾਮ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਮੁਗਲ ਹਕੂਮਤ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਲੜਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਜਦ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ਧਰਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਰਿਵਰਤਿਤ ਹੋਣ ਦਾ ਆਦੇਸ਼ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ, ਤਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਆਦੇਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਵੀ ਮਨਜ਼ੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਿੱਖੀ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆਵਾਂ ਤੇ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਦਾ ਵਾਅਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਮੁਗਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਜ਼ੁਲਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਝੁਕਣ ਦੀ ਬਜਾਏ ਮੌਤ ਨੂੰ ਕਬੂਲ ਕੀਤਾ।

ਸ਼ਹੀਦੀ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਰਾਰਿਕ ਯਾਤਨਾ
ਜਾਕਿਰਿਆ ਖ਼ਾਂ ਨੇ ਭਾਈ ਤਾਰੂ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਸ਼ਰਤ ਰੱਖੀ ਕਿ ਜੇਕਰ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੇਸ (ਵਾਲ) ਮੁੰਡਵਾ ਦੇਣ ਤਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਜਾਨ ਬਖਸ਼ੀ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ, ਪਰ ਭਾਈ ਤਾਰੂ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਕੇਸ ਮੁੰਡਵਾਉਣ ਤੋਂ ਇਨਕਾਰ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ, 9 ਜੂਨ 1745 ਨੂੰ, ਭਾਈ ਤਾਰੂ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਸਿਰ ਦੀ ਖਾਲ (ਚਮੜੀ) ਬੇਹੱਦ ਦਰਦਨਾਕ ਢੰਗ ਨਾਲ ਉਤਾਰੀ ਗਈ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੇਸ ਵਾਪਸ ਨਾਹ ਆ ਸਕਣ। ਇਹ ਇੱਕ ਬੇਹੱਦ ਕਸਾਈਪੁਣਾ ਸੀ, ਜੋ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਸਿੱਖੀ ਦੇ ਕੇਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਹੱਤਵ ਨੂੰ ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ।

ਭਾਈ ਤਾਰੂ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਦਰਦ ਅਤੇ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਸਹਿ ਕੇ ਵੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਧਰਮ ਦੇ ਨਿਯਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਵੀ ਨਜ਼ਰਅੰਦਾਜ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਖੀ ਲਈ ਸਿਰ ਵਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਪਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੇਸਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਖੀ ਲਈ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਖੜੇ ਰਹੇ। ਇਸ ਤਿਆਗ ਨੇ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੇਸਾਂ ਦੀ ਇਜ਼ਤ ਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆਵਾਂ ‘ਤੇ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਦਿਤੀ।

ਅੰਤਿਮ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਹੀਦਗੰਜ
ਭਾਈ ਤਾਰੂ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਹਾਦਤ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਲਾਹੌਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਗੇਟ ਦੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਸਥਿਤ ਇੱਕ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ‘ਤੇ ਅੰਤਿਮ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਇਸ ਥਾਂ ‘ਤੇ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ “ਸ਼ਹੀਦਗੰਜ” ਬਣਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ, ਜੋ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਮਹਾਨ ਤੀਰਥ ਸਥਾਨ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ। ਸਿੱਖ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਈ ਤਾਰੂ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਹਾਦਤ ਨੂੰ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਉਚੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਨਾਲ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਬੱਲੀਦਾਨ ਸਿੱਖ ਧਰਮ ਦੀ ਆਦਰਸ਼ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਦਾ ਸਿੰਬਲ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

ਭਾਈ ਤਾਰੂ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਵਿਰਾਸਤ
ਭਾਈ ਤਾਰੂ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਹਾਦਤ ਸਿੱਖ ਕੌਮ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਸਬਕ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਆਪਣੇ ਧਰਮ ਲਈ ਕਿੰਨਾ ਵੀ ਬਲਦਾਨ ਕਿਉਂ ਨਾ ਦੇਣਾ ਪਏ, ਪਰ ਸੱਚ ਦੇ ਰਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਕਦੇ ਵੀ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਟਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਿਰਾਸਤ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂਆਂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆਵਾਂ ‘ਤੇ ਅਮਲ ਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਖੀ ਦੇ ਮੂਲ ਸਿਧਾਂਤਾਂ ‘ਤੇ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।

ਅੱਜ ਭਾਈ ਤਾਰੂ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਹੀਦਗੰਜ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਹਾਨ ਸ਼ਹਾਦਤ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਣਾਦਾਇਕ ਸਥਾਨ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਜੀਵਨੀ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਮਰਪਣ, ਹਿੰਮਤ, ਅਤੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਨਿਸ਼ਠਾ ਦਾ ਮਹਾਨ ਉਦਾਹਰਣ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।

भाई तारू सिंह जी का जीवन और शहादत – सिख धर्म का महान बलिदान

जन्म और पारिवारिक पृष्ठभूमि
भाई तारू सिंह जी सिख धर्म के एक महान शहीद थे, जिनका बलिदान आज भी सिख कौम को निस्वार्थ सेवा और धर्म की रक्षा के लिए प्रेरित करता है। भाई तारू सिंह जी का जन्म 1720 में पंजाब के अमृतसर ज़िले के गाँव पूहला में संधू जाट परिवार में हुआ था। उनके पिता, भाई जोध सिंह, एक वीर सिख योद्धा थे, जो मुगल हुकूमत के खिलाफ युद्ध में शहीद हुए थे। उनके बाद, भाई तारू सिंह जी का पालन-पोषण उनकी माता बीबी धरम कौर ने एक धार्मिक और आदर्श सिख वातावरण में किया।

पारिवारिक परवरिश
भाई तारू सिंह जी एक बहुत ही निस्वार्थ सिख थे, जिन्होंने अपना जीवन सिख धर्म की सेवा और सिख कौम की रक्षा के लिए समर्पित किया। उनकी परवरिश विनम्रता और मेहनत के वातावरण में हुई। भाई तारू सिंह जी अपनी ज़मीन पर मेहनत करके अपने परिवार का गुज़ारा करते थे, लेकिन उनका जीवन सादा और मितव्ययी था। उन्होंने जो कुछ भी बचाया, वह मुगल हुकूमत के ज़ुल्मों से पलायन करने वाले सिखों की मदद में लगाया।

उनकी छोटी बहन बीबी तार कौर भी सिख योद्धाओं की मदद में भाई तारू सिंह का साथ देती थी। ये दोनों भाई-बहन सिख बंधुओं को सहायता कर रहे थे, जो जंगलों में मुगल अत्याचारों से बचने के लिए छिपे हुए थे। इनकी सहायता और धार्मिक समर्पण ने मुगल हुकूमत को इनके खिलाफ सख्त कदम उठाने के लिए मजबूर कर दिया।

मुगल हुकूमत द्वारा गिरफ्तारी
जंडियाला के एक सरकारी मुखबिर, अकील दास ने भाई तारू सिंह जी और बीबी तार कौर के सिखों को सहायता देने की जानकारी मुगल हुकूमत के गवर्नर जकरिया खान को दी। इसके बाद भाई तारू सिंह जी को लाहौर में गवर्नर जकरिया खान के दरबार में पेश किया गया।

भाई तारू सिंह जी पर आरोप लगाया गया कि वे मुगल हुकूमत के खिलाफ लड़ने वाले सिखों की सहायता कर रहे हैं। जब उन्हें इस्लाम धर्म अपनाने का आदेश दिया गया, तो उन्होंने इस आदेश को कभी स्वीकार नहीं किया। उन्होंने अपनी सिखी और गुरु साहिब की शिक्षाओं पर अडिग रहने का वादा किया और मुगल ज़ुल्मों के आगे झुकने की बजाय मौत को गले लगाया।

शहादत और शारीरिक यातना
जकरिया खान ने भाई तारू सिंह को पकड़कर यह शर्त रखी कि अगर वे अपने केश (बाल) कटवा देंगे तो उनकी जान बख्श दी जाएगी, लेकिन भाई तारू सिंह ने केश कटवाने से इनकार कर दिया। इसके बाद, 9 जून 1745 को, भाई तारू सिंह जी की खोपड़ी को बहुत ही दर्दनाक तरीके से एक तेज़ चाकू से उतारा गया ताकि उनके बाल कभी वापस न उग सकें। यह एक अत्यंत क्रूर कृत्य था, जिसे सिखी के केशों के महत्व को कमजोर करने के उद्देश्य से किया गया था।

भाई तारू सिंह जी ने अत्यधिक दर्द और यातनाओं को सहा, लेकिन अपने धर्म के नियमों को कभी नहीं छोड़ा। उन्होंने अपने गुरु और सिखी के लिए अपना सिर वार दिया, लेकिन अपने केशों की रक्षा के लिए हमेशा खड़े रहे। उनके इस बलिदान ने सिखों को हमेशा अपने केशों की इज़्ज़त करने और अपने गुरु की शिक्षाओं पर अडिग रहने की प्रेरणा दी।

अंतिम संस्कार और शहीदगंज
भाई तारू सिंह जी की शहादत के बाद, उनके शव का अंतिम संस्कार लाहौर में दिल्ली गेट के बाहर एक स्थान पर किया गया। इस स्थान पर बाद में “शहीदगंज” बनाया गया, जो सिखों के लिए एक महान तीर्थ स्थान बन गया। सिख इतिहास में भाई तारू सिंह जी की शहादत को हमेशा उच्च दृष्टि से देखा गया है और उनका बलिदान सिख धर्म के आदर्श शहीद का प्रतीक बन गया है।

भाई तारू सिंह जी की विरासत
भाई तारू सिंह जी की शहादत सिख कौम को यह सिखाती है कि अपने धर्म के लिए कितना भी बलिदान क्यों न देना पड़े, लेकिन सच्चाई के मार्ग से कभी पीछे नहीं हटना चाहिए। उनकी विरासत हमें हमेशा अपने गुरुओं की शिक्षाओं पर चलने और सिख धर्म के मूल सिद्धांतों पर अडिग रहने की प्रेरणा देती है।

Life and Martyrdom of Bhai Taru Singh Ji – A Great Sacrifice in Sikhism

Birth and Family Background
Bhai Taru Singh Ji was a great martyr of Sikhism, whose sacrifice still inspires the Sikh community to selflessly serve and protect their faith. Bhai Taru Singh Ji was born in 1720 in the village of Puhla, located in the Amritsar district of Punjab, into a Sandhu Jat family. His father, Bhai Jodh Singh, was a brave Sikh warrior who was martyred in the war against the Mughal Empire. After his father’s martyrdom, Bhai Taru Singh Ji was raised by his mother, Bibi Dharam Kaur, in a religious and ideal Sikh environment.

Family Upbringing
Bhai Taru Singh Ji was a very selfless Sikh who dedicated his life to serving Sikhism and protecting the Sikh community. He was raised in an atmosphere of humility and hard work. Bhai Taru Singh Ji worked hard on his land to support his family, but his life was simple and frugal. Whatever he saved from his earnings, he used to help Sikhs who were fleeing the atrocities of the Mughal regime.

His younger sister, Bibi Tar Kaur, also supported Bhai Taru Singh in helping the Sikh warriors. Both brother and sister assisted Sikh brothers who were hiding in forests to escape Mughal oppression. Their assistance and religious dedication forced the Mughal regime to take strict actions against them.

Arrest by the Mughal Regime
A government informant from Jandiala, Akil Das, provided information about Bhai Taru Singh Ji and Bibi Tar Kaur aiding the Sikhs to the Mughal governor Zakariya Khan. As a result, Bhai Taru Singh Ji was brought before Governor Zakariya Khan in Lahore.

Bhai Taru Singh Ji was accused of helping the Sikhs who were fighting against the Mughal regime. When asked to convert to Islam, he outright refused. He pledged to remain firm in his Sikh beliefs and teachings of Guru Sahib and preferred death over succumbing to the Mughal tyranny.

Martyrdom and Torture
Zakariya Khan captured Bhai Taru Singh and gave him the condition that if he agreed to cut his hair (kesh), his life would be spared. However, Bhai Taru Singh Ji refused to cut his hair. Consequently, on June 9, 1745, his scalp was painfully removed using a sharp blade so that his hair could never grow back. This act was a cruel attempt to undermine the importance of hair in Sikhism.

Bhai Taru Singh Ji endured immense pain and torture, but he never abandoned the principles of his faith. Two functions have been given by the company to source the monitor, first automatic and second manual. And there are two source options available in Moniot one is VGA and the other is DVI. If you connect cable to any source by keeping it in auto mode, then automatically you will not have any problem in connecting any cable. But when you put the monitor in manual mode and select the DVI source and connect the VGA cable to the port instead of DVI, you will automatically get the problem of colorblinking (burning mode).

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਦੋਂ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ (ਉਸ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ) ਮੈਂ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਮੰਗਾਂ? ਮੈਂ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਫਿਰਾਂ? ਜੇਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਕੋਈ ਵੱਡਾ ਜਾਂ ਧਨਾਢ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹਰੇਕ ਨੇ (ਮਰ ਕੇ) ਮਿੱਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਰਲ ਜਾਣਾ ਹੈ (ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਹੈ) । ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਤੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਨੌ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਉਹ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਹੀ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਨਹੀਂ, ਤੇ, ਜੋ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ।੧। ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀਆਂ (ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ) ਦਾਤਾਂ ਨਾਲ (ਹੀ) ਰੱਜ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਕਿਉਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਫਿਰਾਂ? ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਮੁਥਾਜੀ ਕਿਉਂ ਹੋਵੇ? ।ਰਹਾਉ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ, ਜਗਤ ਦੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਚੀਜ਼ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਭੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਸੁਖਦਾਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਜੇਹਾ (ਨਾਮ-) ਧਨ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ (ਉਸ ਪਾਸੋਂ) ਕਦੇ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੁੱਕਦਾ । ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਜਦੋਂ) ਮਿਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਤਾਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਨੰਦ ਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਆ ਵੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ ।੨। ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ! ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ, ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਕਰ, ਉਚਾਰਿਆ ਕਰ । ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਜਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਭੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਮੁਥਾਜੀ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ । (ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਮਨ!) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩। ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੀ (ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ) ਕੀਮਤ ਕੌਣ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ? ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ । ਹੇ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ! ਅਸੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੇ ਕੀਹ ਪਾਂਇਆਂ ਹੈ? ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਹਰੇਕ ਕੰਮ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ । ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਦਾਸ ਦੀ) ਰੱਖਿਆ ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਿਉ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੁਤਰਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੧।

अर्थ: हे भाई! जब जिव परमात्मा का ही पैदा किया हुआ है, तो (उस करतार को छोड़ के) मैं और किस से कुछ माँगू? मैं और किस की आस रखता फिरूँ? जो भी कोई बड़ा या धनि मनुख दीखता है, हरेक ने (मर कर) मिटटी में मिल जाना है (एक परमात्मा ही सदा कायम रहने वाला दाता है) हे भाई! सारे सुख और जगत के सरे नौ खजाने वह निरंकार ही देने वाला है जिस को किसी का कोई डर नहीं, और, जो सब जीवों का जनम मरण नास करने वाला है।।१।। हे प्रभु जी! मैं तुम्हारी (दी हुई) दातों से रिजक पा सकता हूँ, मैं किसी बेचारे मनुख की बढाई क्यों करता फिरूँ? मुझे किसी मनुख की मोहताजी क्यों हो?।।रहाउ।। हे भाई! जिस मनुख ने परमात्मा की भक्ति शुरू कर दी, जगत की हरेक चीज ही उस की बन जाती है, परमात्मा उस के अंदर (माया की) भूख दूर कर देता है। सुखदाते प्रभु ने उस को ऐसा (नाम-)धन दे दिया है जो(उसके पास कभी भी नहीं ख़तम होता। गुरु ने उस परमात्मा के चरणों में (जब) मिला दिया, तो आत्मिक अडोलता के कारण उस के अन्दर आनंद और सारे सुख आ बसते है।।२।। हे (मेरे) मन! हर समय परमातमा का नाम जपिया कर,सिमरिया कर,उचारिया कर।संत जनां का उपदेस सुन के जमों की भी सारी भाव अधीनता मुक जाती है। (पर,हे मन!) सतिगुरु की बाणी में वही मनुष सुरत जोडते हैं,जिन पर प्यारा प्रभू आप दयावान होता है।।३।।हे प्रभू तेरी (मेहर की) कीमत कौन पा सकता है? तूँ सभी जीवों पर मेहर करने वाला है।हे गोपाल प्रभू जी! हम जीव किआ कर सकते हैं ? जगत में सभी काम आपके किया ही होते हैं।हे प्रभू! नानक तेरा दास है,(इस दास की) रख्सा उसे तरह करते रहना , जैसे पिता अपने पुत्रों पर कृपाल हो कर करता है ।।४।।१।।

ਕੋਈ ਜਾਨੈ ਕਵਨੁ ਈਹਾ ਜਗਿ ਮੀਤੁ ॥ ਜਿਸੁ ਹੋਇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਸੋਈ ਬਿਧਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਰੀਤਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਸੁਤ ਬੰਧਪ ਇਸਟ ਮੀਤ ਅਰੁ ਭਾਈ ॥ ਪੂਰਬ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ਅੰਤਹਿ ਕੋ ਨ ਸਹਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਮਾਲ ਕਨਿਕ ਲਾਲ ਹੀਰਾ ਮਨ ਰੰਜਨ ਕੀ ਮਾਇਆ ॥ ਹਾ ਹਾ ਕਰਤ ਬਿਹਾਨੀ ਅਵਧਹਿ ਤਾ ਮਹਿ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥ ਹਸਤਿ ਰਥ ਅਸ੍ਵ ਪਵਨ ਤੇਜ ਧਣੀ ਭੂਮਨ ਚਤੁਰਾਂਗਾ ॥ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਚਾਲਿਓ ਇਨ ਮਹਿ ਕਛੂਐ ਊਠਿ ਸਿਧਾਇਓ ਨਾਂਗਾ ॥੩॥ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗਾਈਐ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਈਹਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਆਗੈ ਮੁਖ ਊਜਲ ਸੰਗਿ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੪॥੧॥

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ) ਇਥੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ (ਅਸਲੀ) ਮਿੱਤਰ ਕੌਣ ਹੈ। ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਫਿਰ) ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਜੀਵਨਿ-ਜੁਗਤਿ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮਾਂ ਪਿਉ, ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ, ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਰਿਸ਼ਤੇਦਾਰ, ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮਿੱਤਰ ਅਤੇ ਭਰਾ-ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਜਨਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਜੋਗਾਂ ਕਰਕੇ (ਇਥੇ) ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਹਨ। ਅਖ਼ੀਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਸਾਥੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਦਾ।੧। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੋਤੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਮਾਲਾ, ਸੋਨਾ, ਲਾਲ, ਹੀਰੇ, ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਮਾਇਆ-ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਲੱਗਿਆਂ) ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ ‘ਹਾਇ, ਹਾਇ’ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਗੁਜ਼ਰ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਮਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਜਦਾ।੨। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਹਾਥੀ, ਰਥ, ਹਵਾ ਦੇ ਵੇਗ ਵਰਗੇ ਘੋੜੇ (ਹੋਣ) , ਧਨਾਢ ਹੋਵੇ, ਜ਼ਿਮੀ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੋਵੇ, ਚਾਰ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੀ ਫ਼ੌਜ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੋਵੇ-ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ (ਭੀ) ਕੋਈ ਚੀਜ਼ ਭੀ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੀ, (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਥੋਂ) ਨੰਗਾ ਹੀ ਉੱਠ ਕੇ ਤੁਰ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੩। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਖ਼-ਰੂ ਹੋ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਪਰ ਇਹ ਦਾਤਿ) ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ।੪।੧।

कोई जानै कवनु ईहा जगि मीतु ॥ जिसु होइ क्रिपालु सोई बिधि बूझै ता की निरमल रीति ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ मात पिता बनिता सुत बंधप इसट मीत अरु भाई ॥ पूरब जनम के मिले संजोगी अंतहि को न सहाई ॥१॥ मुकति माल कनिक लाल हीरा मन रंजन की माइआ ॥ हा हा करत बिहानी अवधहि ता महि संतोखु न पाइआ ॥२॥ हसति रथ अस्व पवन तेज धणी भूमन चतुरांगा ॥ संगि न चालिओ इन महि कछूऐ ऊठि सिधाइओ नांगा ॥३॥ हरि के संत प्रिअ प्रीतम प्रभ के ता कै हरि हरि गाईऐ ॥ नानक ईहा सुखु आगै मुख ऊजल संगि संतन कै पाईऐ ॥४॥१॥

अर्थ: हे भाई! कोई विरला मनुष्य जानता है (कि) यहाँ जगत में (असली) मित्र कौन है। जिस मनुष्य पर (परमात्मा) दयावान होता है, वही मनुष्य इस बात को समझता है, (फिर) उस मनुष्य की जीवन-जुगति पवित्र हो जाती है।1। रहाउ। हे भाई! माता-पिता, स्त्री, पुत्र, रिश्तेदार, प्यारे मित्र और भाई – ये सारे पहले जन्मों के संयोगों के कारण (यहाँ) आ मिले हैं। आखिरी वक्त पर इनमें से कोई भी साथी नहीं बनता।1। हे भाई! मोतियों की माला, सोना, लाल, हीरे, मन को खुश करने वाली माया- इनमें (लगने से) सारी उम्र ‘हाय हाय’ करते हुए गुजर जाती है, मन नहीं भरता।2। हे भाई! हाथी, रथ, हवा के वेग समान तेज दौड़ने वाले घोड़े (हों), धनाढ हो, जमीन का मालिक हो, चारों किस्म की फौज का मालिक हो – इनमें से कोई (भी) चीज साथ नहीं जाती, (इनका मालिक मनुष्य यहाँ से) नंगा ही उठ के चल पड़ता है।3। हे नानक! परमात्मा के संत जन परमात्मा के प्यारे होते हैं, उनकी संगति में परमात्मा की सिफत सालाह करनी चाहिए। इस लोक में सुख मिलता है, परलोक में सुख-रू हो जाते हैं। (पर ये दाति) संत-जनों की संगति में ही मिलती है।4।1।

ਅਰਥ: ਮੈਂ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ। ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ) ਸਨਕ, ਸਨੰਦ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਿਵ ਜੀ ਵਰਗਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਭੇਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ; (ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂ ਦੇ ਭਗਤ) ਸ਼ੇਸ਼ਨਾਗ ਨੇ ਤੇਰੇ (ਦਿਲ ਦਾ) ਰਾਜ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਿਆ।੧। (ਸ੍ਰੀ ਰਾਮ ਚੰਦਰ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ) ਹਨੂਮਾਨ ਵਰਗੇ ਨੇ, (ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਤੇ ਪੰਛੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਜੇ) ਗਰੁੜ ਵਰਗਿਆਂ ਨੇ, ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਇੰਦਰ ਨੇ, ਵੱਡੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਰਾਜਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ।੨। ਚਾਰ ਵੇਦ, (ਅਠਾਰਾਂ) ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤੀਆਂ, (ਅਠਾਰਾਂ) ਪੁਰਾਣ-(ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ, ਮਨੂ ਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਰਿਸ਼ੀਆਂ) ਨੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਿਆ; ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂ ਤੇ ਲੱਛਮੀ ਨੇ ਭੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ।੩। ਕਬੀਰ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-(ਬਾਕੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਪਾਸੇ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਰਹੇ) ਇੱਕ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਜੋ (ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ) ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।੪।੧। ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦਾ ਭਾਵ: ਅੱਨ ਪੂਜਾ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਭਜਨ ਕਰੋ। ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ, ਸ਼ਿਵ, ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂ, ਇੰਦਰ ਆਦਿਕ ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਾਹ ਪਾ ਸਕੇ।੧।

अर्थ: मैं संतों की संगति में रह के परमात्मा को अपने हृदय में बसाता हूँ।1। रहाउ। हे प्रभू! (ब्रहमा के पुत्रों) सनक, सनंद और शिव जी जैसों ने तेरा भेद नहीं पाया; (विष्णु के भक्त) शेशनाग ने तेरे (दिल का) राज़ नहीं समझा।1। (श्री राम चंद्र जी के सेवक) हनूमान जैसों ने, (विष्णु के सेवक और पक्षियों के राजे) गरुड़ जैसों ने, देवाताओं के राजे इन्द्र ने, बड़े-बड़े राजाओं ने भी तेरे गुणों का अंत नहीं पाया।2। चार वेद, (अठारह) स्मृतियों, (अठारह) पुराणों- (इनके कर्ता ब्रहमा, मनू और ऋषियों) ने तुझे नहीं समझा, विष्णु और लक्ष्मी ने भी तेरा अंत नहीं पाया।3। कबीर कहता है– (बाकी सारी सृष्टि के लोग प्रभू को छोड़ के और ही तरफ भटकते रहे) एक वह मनुष्य नहीं भटकता, जो (संतों की) चरणों में लग के परमात्मा की शरण में टिका रहता है।4।1। शबद का भाव: अन्य-पूजा छोड़ के एक परमात्मा का भजन करो। ब्रहमा, शिव, विष्णु, इन्द्र आदि और उनके सेवक परमात्मा का अंत नहीं पा सके।1।

ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ਗੁਣ ਰਵੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ॥ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਪਉੜੀ ਸਾਚ ਕੀ ਸਾਚਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥ ਸੁਖਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਆਵੈ ਸਾਚ ਭਾਵੈ ਸਾਚ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ਕਿਉ ਟਲੈ ॥ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਸੁਗਿਆਨੁ ਮਜਨੁ ਆਪਿ ਅਛਲਿਓ ਕਿਉ ਛਲੈ ॥ ਪਰਪੰਚ ਮੋਹ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਥਾਕੇ ਕੂੜੁ ਕਪਟੁ ਨ ਦੋਈ ॥ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ਗੁਣ ਰਵੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸੋ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਜਿਨਿ ਕਾਰਣੁ ਕੀਆ ॥ ਮੈਲੁ ਲਾਗੀ ਮਨਿ ਮੈਲਿਐ ਕਿਨੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਆ ॥ ਮਥਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਆ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਦੀਆ ਗੁਰ ਪਹਿ ਮੋਲੁ ਕਰਾਇਆ ॥ ਆਪਨੜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ਜਾ ਮਨੁ ਸਾਚੈ ਲਾਇਆ ॥ ਤਿਸੁ ਨਾਲਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ਜੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵਾ ਕਿਉ ਮਿਲੈ ਹੋਇ ਪਰਾਇਆ ॥ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸੋ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਗਤੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥ ਆਇ ਗਇਆ ਕੀ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਕਿਉ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਤਾ ॥ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਰਾਤਾ ॥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਸਚ ਕੀ ਬਾਤਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਬਿੰਬ ਕਾ ਕੋਟੁ ਉਸਾਰਿਆ ॥ ਪੰਚ ਭੂ ਨਾਇਕੋ ਆਪਿ ਸਿਰੰਦਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਚ ਕਾ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਸਵਾਰਿਆ ॥ ਹਮ ਅਵਗਣਿਆਰੇ ਤੂ ਸੁਣਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਈ ॥ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਾ ਨਾ ਥੀਐ ਸਾਚੀ ਮਤਿ ਹੋਈ ॥੩॥ ਅੰਜਨੁ ਤੈਸਾ ਅੰਜੀਐ ਜੈਸਾ ਪਿਰ ਭਾਵੈ ॥ ਸਮਝੈ ਸੂਝੈ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਜੇ ਆਪਿ ਜਾਣਾਵੈ ॥ ਆਪਿ ਜਾਣਾਵੈ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਆਪੇ ਮਨੂਆ ਲੇਵਏ ॥ ਕਰਮ ਸੁਕਰਮ ਕਰਾਏ ਆਪੇ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਉਣ ਅਭੇਵਏ ॥ ਤੰਤੁ ਮੰਤੁ ਪਾਖੰਡੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਾ ਰਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥ ਅੰਜਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਤਿਸੈ ਤੇ ਸੂਝੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਸਚੁ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥੪॥ ਸਾਜਨ ਹੋਵਨਿ ਆਪਣੇ ਕਿਉ ਪਰ ਘਰ ਜਾਹੀ ॥ ਸਾਜਨ ਰਾਤੇ ਸਚ ਕੇ ਸੰਗੇ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਾਜਨ ਕਰਹਿ ਰਲੀਆ ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥ ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਪੁੰਨ ਪੂਜਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਭਾਇਆ ॥ ਆਪਿ ਸਾਜੇ ਥਾਪਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਤਿਸੈ ਭਾਣਾ ਭਾਇਆ ॥ ਸਾਜਨ ਰਾਂਗਿ ਰੰਗੀਲੜੇ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਲੁ ਬਣਾਇਆ ॥੫॥ ਅੰਧਾ ਆਗੂ ਜੇ ਥੀਐ ਕਿਉ ਪਾਧਰੁ ਜਾਣੈ ॥ ਆਪਿ ਮੁਸੈ ਮਤਿ ਹੋਛੀਐ ਕਿਉ ਰਾਹੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥ ਕਿਉ ਰਾਹਿ ਜਾਵੈ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਅੰਧ ਕੀ ਮਤਿ ਅੰਧਲੀ ॥ ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ਅੰਧੁ ਬੂਡੌ ਧੰਧਲੀ ॥ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਚਾਉ ਉਪਜੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ॥ ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਗੁਰ ਪਹਿ ਕਰਿ ਬਿਨੰਤੀ ਰਾਹੁ ਪਾਧਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਦਸੈ ॥੬॥ ਮਨੁ ਪਰਦੇਸੀ ਜੇ ਥੀਐ ਸਭੁ ਦੇਸੁ ਪਰਾਇਆ ॥ ਕਿਸੁ ਪਹਿ ਖੋਲ੍ਹ੍ਹਉ ਗੰਠੜੀ ਦੂਖੀ ਭਰਿ ਆਇਆ ॥ ਦੂਖੀ ਭਰਿ ਆਇਆ ਜਗਤੁ ਸਬਾਇਆ ਕਉਣੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਬਿਧਿ ਮੇਰੀਆ ॥ ਆਵਣੇ ਜਾਵਣੇ ਖਰੇ ਡਰਾਵਣੇ ਤੋਟਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਫੇਰੀਆ ॥ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹੂਣੇ ਊਣੇ ਝੂਣੇ ਨਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ ॥ ਮਨੁ ਪਰਦੇਸੀ ਜੇ ਥੀਐ ਸਭੁ ਦੇਸੁ ਪਰਾਇਆ ॥੭॥ ਗੁਰ ਮਹਲੀ ਘਰਿ ਆਪਣੈ ਸੋ ਭਰਪੁਰਿ ਲੀਣਾ ॥ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਸੇਵਾ ਤਾਂ ਕਰੇ ਸਚ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਤੀਣਾ ॥ ਸਬਦੇ ਪਤੀਜੈ ਅੰਕੁ ਭੀਜੈ ਸੁ ਮਹਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ਅੰਤਰੇ ॥ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੋਈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਨਿਰੰਤਰੇ ॥ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਮੇਲਾ ਤਾਂ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ਬਾਜੰਤ ਅਨਹਦ ਬੀਣਾ ॥ ਗੁਰ ਮਹਲੀ ਘਰਿ ਆਪਣੈ ਸੋ ਭਰਿਪੁਰਿ ਲੀਣਾ ॥੮॥ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿਆ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਸੋਈ ॥ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਾ ਪਵੈ ਜੇ ਲੋਚੈ ਕੋਈ ॥ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਸੋ ਪਾਵੈ ਆਪਿ ਜਾਣਾਵੈ ਆਪਿ ਅਭੁਲੁ ਨ ਭੁਲਏ ॥ ਜੈ ਜੈ ਕਾਰੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਅਮੁਲਏ ॥ ਹੀਣਉ ਨੀਚੁ ਕਰਉ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਸਾਚੁ ਨ ਛੋਡਉ ਭਾਈ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਦੇਵੈ ਮਤਿ ਸਾਈ ॥੯॥੨॥੫॥

ਅਰਥ: (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ) ਰੰਗਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ (ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ) ਗੁਣ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤਿਉਂ ਤਿਉਂ) ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣੇ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਇਕ ਪੌੜੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਪੌੜੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤਕ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਪੌੜੀ ਤੇ ਚੜ੍ਹਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਇਸ ਪੌੜੀ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਪਹੁੰਚਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਅਟੱਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਅਟੱਲ ਹੈ। (ਜੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਮਤਿ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣੀ, ਤਾਂ) ਕੋਈ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ, ਕੋਈ ਦਾਨ, ਕੋਈ ਚੁੰਚ-ਗਿਆਨਤਾ, ਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਤੀਰਥ-ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ। (ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ) ਧੋਖੇ-ਫ਼ਰੇਬ, ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਚਮਤ-ਕਾਰੇ, ਵਿਕਾਰ ਆਦਿਕ ਸਭ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਨਾਹ ਝੂਠ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਹ ਠੱਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਨਾਹ ਮੇਰ-ਤੇਰ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ। (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ) ਰੰਗਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ (ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ) ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਵਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤਿਉਂ ਤਿਉਂ) ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹੀ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਉਸ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਜਗਤ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। (ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਮੈਲ ਲੱਗੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਜੇ ਮਨ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ) ਮੈਲਾ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹੇ ਤਾਂ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ। (ਪਰ ਇਸ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਭੀ ਮੁੱਲ ਦੇਣਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਮੁੱਲ ਪੁਆਇਆ (ਤਾਂ ਉਸਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ) ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਇਹ ਮਨ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕੀਤਾ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਪੀ ਲਿਆ। (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਰਾਹ ਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ) ਜਦੋਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ (ਮੈਲੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਵਲੋਂ ਹਟਾ ਕੇ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲਈ। (ਪਰ) ਮੈਂ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੀ ਹੋਵੇ (ਜੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗ ਪਵਾਂ)। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਓਪਰੇ ਓਪਰੇ ਰਿਹਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ। (ਸੋ, ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਉਸ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ (ਸਦਾ) ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ (ਇਹ) ਜਗਤ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆ ਵੱਸੇ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਦੀ ਲਾਲਸਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੀ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਗਿੱਝ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਉਸ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਉਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਬੂੰਦ ਤੋਂ ਸਰੀਰ-ਕਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਉਸਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਪੰਜਾਂ ਤੱਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਸਰੀਰ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਲਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਸਜਾਇਆ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ (ਮੇਰੀ ਬੇਨਤੀ) ਸੁਣ। ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵ ਔਗੁਣਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਾਂ (ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ) ਜੇਹੜਾ ਜੀਵ (ਤੇਰੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ) ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪਸੰਦ ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਅਭੁੱਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੩॥ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਸੁਰਮਾ ਪਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗੇ (ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਉੱਦਮ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਸੰਦ ਆਵੇ)। (ਪਰ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਕੀਹ ਵੱਸ ਹੈ ?) ਜਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਸਮਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੇ, ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ (ਸਹੀ ਰਸਤਾ) ਸਮਝ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਸੂਝ ਆ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਕੁਝ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਮਝ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਹੀ ਰਸਤੇ ਉਤੇ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸਾਧਾਰਨ ਕੰਮ ਤੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਕੰਮ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਕਰਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ; ਪਰ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਭੇਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਕੋਈ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਕੀਮਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣ ਸਕਦਾ। (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ) ਮੈਂ ਕੋਈ ਜਾਦੂ-ਟੂਣਾ ਕੋਈ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਆਦਿਕ ਪਖੰਡ ਕਰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦੀ। ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਕੇਵਲ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਇਆ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਗਿੱਝ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਸੁਰਮਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਸੁਰਮੇ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਭੀ ਉਸੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ। (ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਸੂਝ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੪॥ ਸੱਜਣ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੁਭਾਗ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੇ) ਆਪਣੇ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਬੰਦੇ ਪਰਾਏ ਘਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੇ (ਭਾਵ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਅਖਾਉਤੀ ਧਰਮ-ਕਰਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ)। ਉਹ ਆਦਮੀ ਅੰਤਰ ਆਤਮੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਸੱਜਣ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਰੱਤੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸੱਜਣ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਹੀ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ, ਇਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਕੰਮ ਹਨ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ-ਇਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਅਠਾਹਠ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਹੈ, ਇਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਪੁੰਨ-ਦਾਨ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਦੇਵ-ਪੂਜਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਮਿੱਠੀ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਆਪ (ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ) ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸੱਜਣ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਹੋਏ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਦਾ ਲਾਲ ਰੰਗ ਬਣਾ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ ॥੫॥ ਜੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਆਗੂ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਬਣ ਜਾਏ ਜੋ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਜੀਵਨ-ਸਫ਼ਰ ਦਾ ਸਿੱਧਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝ ਸਕਦਾ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਆਗੂ ਅਪ ਹੀ ਹੋਛੀ ਅਕਲ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ (ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਥੋਂ) ਲੁਟਿਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਵੀ) ਕਿਵੇਂ ਰਾਹ ਲੱਭ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ? ਮਾਇਆ-ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਹੀ ਅਕਲ ਡੌਰੀ-ਭੌਰੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਹੀ ਰਸਤੇ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ, ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਦਰ ਲੱਭ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ; ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜੇ ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਾਰੇ) ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁੱਝਦਾ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਦੌੜ-ਭੱਜ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਚਾਨਣ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ (ਸੇਵਾ-ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦਾ) ਉਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਹੱਥ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਪਾਸ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਸਿੱਧਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੬॥ ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੜਿਆ ਰਹੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਬਿਗਾਨਾ ਜਾਪਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵਿਤਕਰਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ)। (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੜ ਕੇ) ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਹੀ (ਭਾਵ, ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ) ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ (ਨਕਾ-ਨਕ) ਭਰਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਐਸਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਜੋ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜਿਆ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਸੁਖੀ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੋਵੇ, ਤੇ) ਜਿਸ ਅੱਗੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਗੰਢ ਖੋਹਲ ਸਕਾਂ (ਹਰੇਕ ਨੂੰ ਆਪੋ-ਧਾਪ ਪਈ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ)। (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ) ਸਾਰਾ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ (ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ) ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਹਰੇਕ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਇਤਨਾ ਸੁਆਰਥ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕੋਈ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਦਰਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਦਾ), ਮੇਰੀ ਦੁੱਖੀ ਦਸ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਨ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਪਰਵਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ। (ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝੇ ਹੋਏ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ) ਬਹੁਤ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ (ਦੇ ਗੇੜ) ਬਣੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਜਗਤ-ਫੇਰੀਆਂ ਮੁੱਕਦੀਆਂ ਨਹੀਂ। ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ (ਭਾਗ-ਹੀਣ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ) ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁਣਾਇਆ, ਜੋ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣੇ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਦੁੱਖੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਹੀ ਬਿਤਾਂਦੇ ਗਏ। (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੜਿਆ ਰਹੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਬਿਗਾਨਾ ਜਾਪਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਮੇਰ-ਤੇਰ ਬਣੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ) ॥੭॥ ਉੱਚੇ ਟਿਕਾਣੇ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੀ ਯਾਦ) ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ (ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਨ) ਮਗਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਗਿੱਝ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਹਿਰਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਨਾਲ ਭਿੱਜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਰੀਰ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਯਕੀਨ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਇਕ-ਰਸ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੌਖਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ, ਮਾਨੋ,) ਇਕ-ਰਸ ਬੰਸਰੀ ਵੱਜਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਉੱਚੇ ਟਿਕਾਣੇ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਸ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੀ ਯਾਦ) ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਜੀਵ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਾਂ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਕੀਹ ਲਾਭ ? (ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਉਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ) ਜੋ ਜਗਤ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਭੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਪਰ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ, ਉਸ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ)। ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਹ ਚਾਹੇ (ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਪਾ ਸਕਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ) ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ। ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਸੂਝ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਅਭੁੱਲ ਹੈ ਕਦੇ ਭੁੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ। (ਉਹ ਬੰਦਾ ਇਉਂ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ-) ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਅਮੋਲਕ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਤੁੱਛ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਨੀਵਾਂ ਹਾਂ, ਪਰ ਮੈਂ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਦਰ ਤੇ ਹੀ) ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੇ ਪੱਲੇ) ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੱਡਦਾ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀ! (ਆਖੋ-) (ਮੇਰੀ ਕੋਈ ਪਾਂਇਆਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਦਮ ਭਰ ਸਕਾਂ), ਜੇਹੜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ (ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ) ਅਕਲ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੯॥੨॥੫॥

अर्थ: (परमात्मा के प्यार में) रंगा हुआ मेरा मन (ज्यों-ज्यों परमात्मा के) गुण चेते करता है (त्यों-त्यों) मेरे मन में वह परमात्मा ही प्यारा लगता जाता है। परमात्मा के गुण गाने, मानो, एक सीढ़ी है जो गुरू ने दी है और इस सीढ़ी के माध्यम से सदा-स्थिर रहने वाले परमात्मा तक पहुँचा जा सकता है, (इस सीढ़ी पर चढ़ने की बरकति से मेरे अंदर) सदा-स्थिर रहने वाला आनंद बन रहा है। जो मनुष्य (इस सीढ़ी की बरकति से) आत्मिक आनंद में आत्मिक अडोलता में पहुँचता है वह सदा-स्थिर प्रभू को प्यारा लगता है। सदा-स्थिर प्रभू के गुण गाने वाली उसकी मति अटल हो जाती है। परमात्मा अटल है। (अगर गुण गाने वाली मति नहीं बनी तो) कोई स्नान, कोई दान, कोई ज्ञान की चोंच-चर्चा, और कोई तीर्थ स्नान परमात्मा को खूश नहीं कर सकते। (गुण गाने वाले मनुष्य के मन में से) धोखे-फरेब, मोह के चमत्कार, विकार आदि सब समाप्त हो जाते हैं। उसके अंदर ना झूठ रह जाता है, ना ठॅगी रहती है, ना ही मेर-तेर रहती है। (प्रभू के प्यार में) रंगा हुआ मेरा मन (ज्यों-ज्यों प्रभू के) गुण गाता है (त्यों-त्यों) मेरे मन में वह प्रभू ही प्यारा लगता जा रहा है।1। उस मालिक प्रभू की सिफत-सालाह करनी चाहिए जिसने जगत पैदा किया है। (सिफत-सालाह किए बिना मनुष्य के मन में विकारों की) मैल लगी रहती है, और अगर मन (विकारों से) मैला टिका रहे तो कोई भी नाम-अमृत पी नहीं सकता। (पर इस नाम-अमृत की प्राप्ति के लिए भी मूल्य चुकाना पड़ता है) मैंने गुरू से मूल्य डलवाया (तो उसने बताया कि) जिसने अपना ये मन (गुरू के) हवाले किया उसने बार-बार सिमर के नाम-अमृत पी लिया। (गुरू के बताए हुए राह पर चल कर) जब किसी मनुष्य ने अपना मन (मैल से हटा के) सदा-स्थिर प्रभू में जोड़ा तो उसने आत्मिक अडोलता में टिक के अपने प्रीतम प्रभू से गहरी सांझ डाल ली। (पर) मैं तब ही प्रभू-चरणों से जुड़ के प्रभू के गुण गा सकता हूँ अगर प्रभू की रजा ही हो (यदि मैं उसे अच्छा लगने लगूँ)। प्रभू के साथ ऊपर-ऊपर रहने पर प्रभू के साथ मिलाप नहीं हो सकता। (सो, हे भाई!) उस मालिक प्रभू की (सदा) सिफत सालाह करनी चाहिए जिसने (ये) जगत पैदा किया है।2। जिस मनुष्य के हृदय में परमात्मा आ बसे, उसे किसी और पदार्थ की लालसा नहीं रह जाती, उसका जनम-मरण समाप्त हो जाता है। उसका मन प्रीतम-प्रभू में रीझ जाता है, प्रभू के प्रेम से रंगा जाता है। उसका मन उस मालिक के रंग में रंगा जाता है, वह उस सदा-स्थिर मालिक की सिफत सालाह की बातें करता रहता है जिसने पानी की बूँद से शरीर किले का निर्माण किया है, जो पाँच तत्वों का मालिक है, जो स्वयं ही (शरीर जगत को) पैदा करने वाला है, जिसने अपने रहने के लिए मनुष्य का शरीर सजाया है। हे प्यारे प्रभू! तू (मेरी विनती) सुन। हम जीव अवगुणों से भरे हुए हैं (तू स्वयं ही अपनी सिफत सालाह की दाति दे के हमें पवित्र करने वाला है) जो जीव (तेरी मेहर से) तुझे पसेंद आ जाता है वह तेरा ही रूप हो जाता है। उसके जनम-मरन के चक्कर समाप्त हो जाते हैं, उसकी बुद्धि अभुल हो जाती है (वह सद्बुद्धि वाला हो जाता है)।3। स्त्री को ऐसा सुर्मा पहनना चाहिए जैसा उसके पति को अच्छा लगे (जीव-स्त्री को प्रभू-पति के मिलाप के लिए ऐसे उद्यम करने चाहिए जो प्रभू-पति को पसंद आए)। (पर जीव के भी वश में क्या है?) जब परमात्मा खुद समझ बख्शे, तब ही जीव (सही रास्ता) समझ सकता है, तब ही जीव को सूझ आ सकती है, तब ही कुछ जाना जा सकता है। परमात्मा खुद ही समझ देता है, खुद ही सही रास्ते पर डालता है खुद ही जीव के मन को अपनी ओर प्रेरित करता है। साधारण काम और अच्छे काम परमात्मा खुद ही जीव से करवाता है, पर उस प्रभू का भेद नहीं पाया जा सकता, कोई उसकी कीमत नहीं जान सकता। (परमात्मा का प्यार प्राप्त करने के लिए) मैं कोई जादू-टोना कोई मंत्र आदि पाखण्ड करना नहीं जानती। मैंने तो केवल उस प्रभू को अपने हृदय में बसाया है, मेरा मन उसकी याद में भीग गया है। प्रभू-पति को प्रसन्न करने के लिए उसका नाम ही सुर्मा है, इस सुर्मे की सूझ भी उसके पास से ही मिलती है। (जिस जीव को ये सूझ पड़ जाती है वह) गुरू के शबद में जुड़ के उस सदा-स्थिर प्रभू के साथ गहरी सांझ डाल लेता है।4। सज्जन प्रभू जी (जिन सौभाग्यशाली बँदों के) अपने बन जाते हैं, वह लोग फिर पराए घरों में नहीं जाते (भाव, प्रभू का सिमरन छोड़ के और तथाकथित धर्म-कर्म नहीं करते फिरते)। वे आदमी अंतरात्मे सदा-स्थिर सज्जन-प्रभू के साथ रंगे रहते हैं। वे अपने मन में सज्जन-प्रभू जी के मिलाप का आनंद ही लेते हैं, यही उनके वास्ते सारे धार्मिक कर्म हैं। उनको सदा-स्थिर प्रभू का नाम प्यारा लगता है– यही उनके वास्ते अढ़सठ तीर्थों का स्नान है, यही उनके वास्ते पुंन-दान है और यही उनकी देव-पूजा है। उन लोगों को उसी प्रभू की रजा मीठी लगती है जो खुद (जगत को) पैदा करता है और पैदा करके संभाल करता है। सज्जन-प्रभू के रंग में रंगे हुए उन लोगों ने अपने अंदर प्रभू-प्रेम का लाल रंग बना रखा है।5। अगर किसी मनुष्य का नायक (आगू) वह मनुष्य बन जाए जो खुद ही माया के मोह में अंधा हुआ पड़ा हो, तो वह जीवन-सफर का सीधा रास्ता नहीं समझ सकता, क्योंकि वह नायक स्वयं ही होछी अक्ल के कारण (कामादिक विकारों के हाथों) लुटा जा रहा है (उसकी रहनुमाई में चलने वाला भी) कैसे सही रास्ता पा सकता है? माया के मोह में अंधे हुए मनुष्य की अपनी ही बुद्धि भ्रष्ट (अंधी-बहरी) हुई होती है, वह खुद ही सही रास्ते पर नहीं चल सकता, और परमात्मा के दर को नहीं पा सकता; परमात्मा के नाम से वंचित होने के कारण उसको (सही जीवन के बारे में) कुछ नहीं सूझता, माया के मोह में अँधा हुआ मनुष्य माया की दौड़-भाग में डूबा रहता है। पर जिस मनुष्य के मन में गुरू का शबद बसता है, उसके हृदय में दिन-रात नाम का प्रकाश हुआ रहता है, उसके अंदर (सेवा-सिमरन का) उत्साह पैदा हुआ रहता है। वह अपने दोनों हाथ जोड़ के गुरू के पास विनती करता रहता है क्योंकि गुरू उसको जीवन का सही रास्ता बताता है।6। अगर मनुष्य का मन प्रभू-चरणों से विछुड़ा रहे तो उसको सारा जगत बेगाना लगता है (भाव, उसके अंदर भेद भाव बना रहता है)। (प्रभू-चरणों से विछुड़ के) सारा जगत ही (भाव, हरेक जीव) दुखों से (नाको-नाक) भरा रहता है (उनमें मुझे कोई ऐसा नहीं दिखाई देता जो नाम से वंचित रह के सुखी दिखता हो, और) जिसके आगे मैं अपने दुखों की गठड़ी खोल सकूँ (हरेक को आपो धापी पड़ी रहती है)। (प्रभू-चरणों से विछुड़ा हुआ) सारा ही जगत (हरेक जीव) दुखों से भरा रहता है (हरेक के अंदर इतना स्वार्थ होता है कि कोई किसी का दर्दी नहीं बनता), मेरी दुखद दशा को जानने (समझने) की भी कोई परवाह नहीं करता। (नाम से टूटे हुए जीवों के सिर पर) बहुत भयानक जनम-मरन (के चक्कर) बने रहते हैं, उनके जनम-मरण की जगत-फेरियाँ खत्म होने को नहीं आती। जिन (भाग्यहीन लोगों) को गुरू ने परमात्मा की सिफत सालाह का शबद नहीं सुनाया, जो नाम से वंचित रहे हैं वे दुखी जीवन ही बिताते गए (क्योंकि) यदि मनुष्य का मन प्रभू-चरणों से विछुड़ा रहे तो उसे सारा जगत बेगाना प्रतीत होता है (असके अंदर भेद भाव मेर तेर बनी रहती है)।7। ऊँचे ठिकाने के मालिक प्रभू जिस मनुष्य के अपने हृदय-घर में आ बसता है वह मनुष्य उस सर्व-व्यापक प्रभू (की याद) में मस्त रहता है, वह मनुष्य प्रभू का सेवक बन जाता है, प्रभू की सेवा-भक्ति करता है सदा-स्थिर प्रभू की सिफत सालाह के शबद में (उसका मन) मगन रहता है। वह मनुष्य सतिगुरू के शबद में पतीज जाता है, उसका हृदय नाम-रस से भीगा रहता है, उसको हरेक शरीर के अंदर प्रभू का निवास दिखता है, (उसे विश्वास बना रहता है कि) प्रभू स्वयं ही सब कुछ कर रहा है, खुद ही हरेक के अंदर एक-रस व्यापक है। गुरू के शबद की बरकति से जब उस मनुष्य का परमात्मा से मिलाप हो जाता है तो उसका जीवन आसान हो जाता है (उसके अंदर मानो) एक-रस बाँसुरी सी बजती रहती है। ऊँचे ठिकाने का मालिक प्रभू जिस मनुष्य के अपने हृदय-घर में प्रकट हो जाता है वह मनुष्य उस सर्व-व्यापक प्रभू (की याद) में जुड़ा रहता है।8। परमात्मा के पैदा किए हुए जीवों की प्रशंसा (सिफतें) करने का क्या लाभ? (सिफत सालाह तो उस परमात्मा की करनी चाहिए) जो जगत पैदा करके खुद ही संभाल भी करता है। (पर उस प्रभू का मूल्य नहीं आँका जा सकता, उस जैसा कोई और कहा भी नहीं जा सकता)। अगर कोई मनुष्य ये चाहे (कि परमात्मा के गुण बयान करके उसका मूल्य पा सकेगा तो ये नहीं हो सकता) उस प्रभू का मूल्य नहीं पड़ सकता। जिस मनुष्य को प्रभू स्वयं सूझ बख्शता है, वह प्रभू की कद्र समझ लेता है (और बताता है कि) प्रभू अभुल है कभी भूल नहीं करता। (वह सख्श इस प्रकार विनती करता है–) हे प्रभू! जो लोग तुझे प्यारे लगते हैं वे गुरू के अमोलक शबद में जुड़ के तेरी सिफत सालाह करते हैं। हे नानक! (कह–) हे भाई! मैं तुच्छ हूँ, मैं नीच हूँ, पर मैं (प्रभू के दर पर ही) विनती करता हूँ, मैं उस सदा-स्थिर प्रभू (के पल्ले) को नहीं छोड़ता। (मेरी कोई बिसात नहीं कि मैं सिफत सालाह करने का दम भर सकूँ), जो प्रभू पैदा करके प्रतिपालना करता है वही (सिफत सालाह करने की) बुद्धि भी बख्शता है।9।2।5।

Meaning:

Meaning: My mind is imbued with His Glorious Praises; I chant them, and He is pleasing to my mind. Truth is the ladder to the Guru; climbing up to the True Lord, peace is obtained. Celestial peace comes; the Truth pleases me. How could these True Teachings ever be erased ? He Himself is Undeceivable; how could He ever be deceived by cleansing baths, charity, spiritual wisdom or ritual bathings ? Fraud, attachment and corruption are taken away, as are falsehood, hypocrisy and duality. My mind is imbued with His Glorious Praises; I chant them, and He is pleasing to my mind. ||1|| So praise your Lord and Master, who created the creation. Filth sticks to the polluted mind; how rare are those who drink in the Ambrosial Nectar. Churn this Ambrosial Nectar, and drink it in; dedicate this mind to the Guru, and He will value it highly. I intuitively realized my God, when I linked my mind to the True Lord. I will sing the Lord’s Glorious Praises with Him, if it pleases Him; how could I meet Him by being a stranger to Him ? So praise your Lord and Master, who created the creation. ||2|| When He comes, what else remains behind ? How can there be any coming or going then ? When the mind is reconciled with its Beloved Lord, it is blended with Him. True is the speech of one who is imbued with the Love of his Lord and Master, who fashioned the body fortress from a mere bubble. He is the Master of the five elements; He Himself is the Creator Lord. He embellished the body with Truth. I am worthless; please hear me, O my Beloved! Whatever pleases You is True. One who is blessed with true understanding, does not come and go. ||3|| Apply such an ointment to your eyes, which is pleasing to your Beloved. I realize, understand and know Him, only if He Himself causes me to know Him. He Himself shows me the Way, and He Himself leads me to it, attracting my mind. He Himself causes us to do good and bad deeds; who can know the value of the Mysterious Lord ? I know nothing of Tantric spells, magical mantras and hypocritical rituals; enshrining the Lord within my heart, my mind is satisfied. The ointment of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is only understood by one who realizes the Lord, through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. ||4|| I have my own friends; why should I go to the home of a stranger ? My friends are imbued with the True Lord; He is with them, in their minds. In their minds, these friends celebrate in happiness; all good karma, righteousness and Dharma, The sixty-eight holy places of pilgrimage, charity and worship, are found in the love of the True Name. He Himself creates, establishes and beholds all, by the Pleasure of His Will. My friends are happy in the Love of the Lord; they nurture love for their Beloved. ||5|| If a blind man is made the leader, how will he know the way ? He is impaired, and his understanding is inadequate; how will he know the way ? How can he follow the path and reach the Mansion of the Lord’s Presence ? Blind is the understanding of the blind. Without the Lord’s Name, they cannot see anything; the blind are drowned in worldly entanglements. Day and night, the Divine Light shines forth and joy wells up, when the Word of the Guru’s Shabad abides in the mind. With your palms pressed together, pray to the Guru to show you the way. ||6|| If the man becomes a stranger to God, then all the world becomes a stranger to him. Unto whom should I tie up and give the bundle of my pains ? The whole world is overflowing with pain and suffering; who can know the state of my inner self ? Comings and goings are terrible and dreadful; there is no end to the rounds of reincarnation. Without the Naam, he is vacant and sad; he does not listen to the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. If the mind becomes a stranger to God, then all the world becomes a stranger to him. ||7|| One who finds the Guru’s Mansion within the home of his own being, merges in the All-pervading Lord. The sevadar performs selfless service when he is pleased, and confirmed in the True Word of the Shabad. Confirmed in the Shabad, with her being softened by devotion, the bride dwells in the Mansion of the Lord’s Presence, deep within her being. The Creator Himself creates; God Himself, in the end, is endless. Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, the mortal is united, and then embellished; the unstruck melody of the sound current resounds. One who finds the Guru’s Mansion within the home of his own being, merges in the All-pervading Lord. ||8|| Why praise that which is created ? Praise instead the One who created it and watches over it. His value cannot be estimated, no matter how much one may wish. He alone can estimate the Lord’s value, whom the Lord Himself causes to know. He is not mistaken; He does not make mistakes. He alone celebrates victory, who is pleasing to You, through the Invaluable Word of the Guru’s Shabad. I am lowly and abject – I offer my prayer; may I never forsake the True Name, O Sibling of Destiny. O Nanak Ji, the One who created the creation, watches over it; He alone bestows understanding. ||9||2||5||

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਸਦਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆ ਕਰ। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਦਾ ਲਾਭ ਖੱਟ ਲੈ।੧। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਤੇਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਦੀ ਨਦੀ) ਵਹਿੰਦੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਤੂੰ ਇਧਰ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ। ਤੂੰ ਨਾਸਵੰਤ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਬਾਨ੍ਹਣੂ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਬੰਨ੍ਹਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈਂ।੧। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਤੂੰ ਹਾਣ ਲਾਭ ਵਿਚਾਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੀ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਕਰੀ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਰਤਨ (ਵਰਗਾ ਕੀਮਤੀ) ਨਾਮ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਇਕ ਛਿਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਟਿਕਾਂਦਾ।੨। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਪਣਾ ਸਰੀਰ) ਪਾਲਣ ਪੋਸਣ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਲੰਘਦੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੀ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਤੂੰ (ਹੁਣ ਤਕ) ਸਮਝੀ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ।੩। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ-) ਹੇ ਸਭ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਗਿਆਨ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ, (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈ, ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ।੪।੨੭।੩੩।

अर्थ: हे भाई! दिन-रात सदा माया के पति प्रभू का नाम जपा कर। प्रभू की शरण पड़ कर कीमती मानस जन्म का फायदा उठा ले।1। हे भाई! (तेरी उम्र की नदी) बहती जा रही है, पर तू इधर ध्यान नहीं करता। तू नाशवंत पदार्थों के मोह के बँधन ही सदा बाँधता रहता है।1। हे भाई! तू हानि-लाभ विचारे बिना ही विकार किए जा रहा है परमात्मा का रत्न (जैसा कीमती) नाम अपने दिल में तू एक पल के लिए भी नहीं टिकाता।2। हे भाई! (अपना शरीर) पालने-पोसने में ही तेरी उम्र बीतती जा रही है। परमात्मा की सिफत सालाह के आनंद की अवस्था तू (अब तक) समझी ही नहीं।3। हे नानक! (कह–) हे सब ताकतों के मालिक! ज्ञानेन्द्रियों की पहुँच से परे रहने वाले हे मालिक! मैं तेरी शरण आया हूँ, (मुझे विकारों से) बचा ले, तू मेरा मालिक है, तू मेरे दिल की जानने वाला है।4।27।33।

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਿਆਲ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪੀ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਕਰੇ ਤਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਫਸਦਾ।੧। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਰਚੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ, (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ) ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਜੀਵ ਦਾ ਰਾਖਾ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਦੀ ਬਲਦੀ (ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਦੀ) ਅੱਗ ਬੁੱਝ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।੨। ਜਦੋਂ (ਜੀਵ ਉੱਤੇ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਮੇਹਰਬਾਨ ਹੋਣ ਤਾਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੀ। ਇਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਹੀ ਪਾਪ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ ਵਿਚ ਨ੍ਹਾਤਿਆਂ ਸਰੀਰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ) ਪੂਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਤਨ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਅਜੇਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਤੇ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਕੁਲਾਂ ਤਰ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।੧੮।

अर्थ: हे नानक! अगर मनुष्य दयालु सर्व-व्यापक भगवान के नाम की वडिआई करे तो प्रभू मेहर करता है, उसके दुखों का नाश करता है और वह मनुष्य माया के मोह में नहीं फसता।1। हे नानक! जिस प्रभू ने सारी दुनिया रची है उसका सिमरन कर, (सिमरन करने से) वह प्रभू खुद जीव का रखवाला बनता है और उसके अंदर जलती हुई (तृष्णा की) आग बुझ जाती है।2। जब (जीव पर) प्रभू जी मेहरवान हों तो माया जोर नहीं डाल सकती। एक प्रभू को सिमरने से करोड़ों ही पाप नाश हो जाते हैं, सिमरन करने वाले बँदों की चरण-धूड़ में नहाने से शरीर पवित्र हो जाते हैं, (संतों की संगति में) पूर्ण प्रभू मिल जाता है और मन व तन दोनों को संतोष प्राप्त होता है। ऐसे मनुष्यों की संगति में उनके परिवार के लोग और सारी ही कुलों का उद्धार हो जाता है।18।

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ) ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਇਹ ਸੁਖ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ।ਰਹਾਉ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਵੱਡੀ ਕਿਸਮਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੂਝ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਹੁਣ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਉਸ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੀ ਬਰਾਬਰੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ।੧। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਦੋਂ ਦਾ ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨੀਂ ਲੱਗਾ ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਡਰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹੁਣ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਿਸ਼ਚਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜੇਹੜਾ) ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਸਭ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਰਾਖਾ ਹੈ।੨। (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਯਕੀਨ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਸਤੀ ਮੌਤ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿਤ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਇਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਭੀ (ਮੇਰੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ) ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਦੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਗਲ ਨਾਲ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।੩। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਿਆ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਹਨ। ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਬੜੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਅਚਰਜ ਸੋਭਾ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੪।੫।

सोरठि महला ५ ॥
गुरु पूरा भेटिओ वडभागी मनहि भइआ परगासा ॥ कोइ न पहुचनहारा दूजा अपुने साहिब का भरवासा ॥१॥ अपुने सतिगुर कै बलिहारै ॥ आगै सुखु पाछै सुख सहजा घरि आनंदु हमारै ॥ रहाउ ॥ अंतरजामी करणैहारा सोई खसमु हमारा ॥ निरभउ भए गुर चरणी लागे इक राम नाम आधारा ॥२॥ सफल दरसनु अकाल मूरति प्रभु है भी होवनहारा ॥ कंठि लगाइ अपुने जन राखे अपुनी प्रीति पिआरा ॥३॥ वडी वडिआई अचरज सोभा कारजु आइआ रासे ॥ नानक कउ गुरु पूरा भेटिओ सगले दूख बिनासे ॥४॥५॥

अर्थ: हे भाई! मैं अपने गुरू से कुर्बान जाता हूँ, (गुरू की कृपा से) मेरे हृदय-घर में आनंद बना रहता है, इस लोक में भी आत्मिक अडोलता (सहज अवस्था) का सुख मुझे प्राप्त हो गया है, और, परलोक में भी ये सुख टिका रहने वाला है। रहाउ। हे भाई! बड़ी किस्मत से मुझे पूरा गुरू मिल गया है, मेरे मन में आत्मिक जीवन की समझ पैदा हो गई है। अब मुझे अपने मालिक का सहारा हो गया है, कोई उस मालिक की बराबरी नहीं कर सकता।1। हे भाई! जब से मैं गुरू के चरणों में लगा हूँ, मुझे परमात्मा के नाम का आसरा हो गया है, कोई डर मुझे (अब) छू नहीं सकता (मुझे निश्चय हो गया है कि जो) सृजनहार सबके दिल की जानने वाला है वही मेरे सिर पर रक्षक है।2। (हे भाई! गुरू की कृपा से मुझे विश्वास हो गया है कि) जिस परमात्मा का दर्शन मानस जनम को फल देने वाला है, जिस परमात्मा की हस्ती मौत से रहित है, वह उस वक्त भी (मेरे सर पर) मौजूद है, और, सदा कायम रहने वाला है। वह प्रभू अपनी प्रीति की अपने प्यार की दाति दे के अपने सेवकों को अपने गले से लगा लेता है।3। हे भाई! मुझे नानक को पूरा गुरू मिल गया है, मेरे सारे दुख दूर हो गए हैं। वह गुरू बड़ी महिमावाला है, आश्चर्य शोभा वाला है, उसकी शरण पड़ने से जिंदगी का उद्देश्य प्राप्त हो जाता है।4।5।

Meaning: I met the True Guru, by great good fortune, and my mind has been enlightened. No one else can equal me, because I have the loving support of my Lord and Master. ||1|| I am a sacrifice to my True Guru. I am at peace in this world, and I shall be in celestial peace in the next; my home is filled with bliss. || Pause || He is the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts, the Creator, my Lord and Master. I have become fearless, attached to the Guru’s feet; I take the Support of the Name of the One Lord. ||2|| Fruitful is the Blessed Vision of His Darshan; the Form of God is deathless; He is and shall always be. He hugs His humble servants close, and protects and preserves them; their love for Him is sweet to Him. ||3|| Great is His glorious greatness, and wondrous is His magnificence; through Him, all affairs are resolved. Nanak has met with the Perfect Guru; all his sorrows have been dispelled. ||4||5||

ਟੋਡੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
ਹਰਿ ਬਿਸਰਤ ਸਦਾ ਖੁਆਰੀ ॥ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਧੋਖਾ ਕਹਾ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਓਟ ਤੁਹਾਰੀ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਜੋ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਬਲਨਾ ਸਰਪ ਜੈਸੇ ਅਰਜਾਰੀ ॥ ਨਵ ਖੰਡਨ ਕੋ ਰਾਜੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਅੰਤਿ ਚਲੈਗੋ ਹਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਗੁਣ ਤਿਨ ਹੀ ਗਾਏ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ॥ ਸੋ ਸੁਖੀਆ ਧੰਨੁ ਉਸੁ ਜਨਮਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ॥੨॥੨॥

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੇ ਨਾਮ) ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾਇਆਂ ਸਦਾ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਹੱਥੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ) ਬੇ-ਪਤੀ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੋਵੇ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਵੱਲੋਂ) ਧੋਖਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗ ਸਕਦਾ।ਰਹਾਉ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜਿਤਨੀ ਭੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰਨੀ ਹੈ (ਉਹ ਇਉਂ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ) ਜਿਵੇਂ ਸੱਪ (ਆਪਣੀ) ਉਮਰ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਮਰ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਲੰਮੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ) । (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜੇ) ਸਾਰੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਦਾ ਰਾਜ ਭੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੇ, ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਆਖ਼ਰ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਹਾਰ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੧। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ-ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਗਾਏ ਹਨ ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਹਰੀ ਨੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਿਤੀਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਮੁਬਾਰਿਕ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਅਜੇਹੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਹੋਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।੨।੨।

टोडी महला ५ ॥ हरि बिसरत सदा खुआरी ॥ ता कउ धोखा कहा बिआपै जा कउ ओट तुहारी ॥ रहाउ ॥ बिनु सिमरन जो जीवनु बलना सरप जैसे अरजारी ॥ नव खंडन को राजु कमावै अंति चलैगो हारी ॥१॥ गुण निधान गुण तिन ही गाए जा कउ किरपा धारी ॥ सो सुखीआ धंनु उसु जनमा नानक तिसु बलिहारी ॥२॥२॥

अर्थ: हे भाई! परमात्मा (के नाम) को भुलाने से सदा (माया के हाथों मनुष्य की) बेइज्जती ही होती है। हे प्रभू! जिस मनुष्य को तेरा आसरा हो, उसको (माया के किसी भी विकार से) धोखा नहीं लग सकता। रहाउ। हे भाई! परमात्मा के नाम-सिमरन के बिना जितनी भी जिंदगी गुजारनी है (वो ऐसे होती है) जैसे साँप (अपनी) उम्र गुजारता है (उम्र चाहे लंबी होती है, पर वह सदा अपने अंदर जहर पैदा करता रहता है)। (सिमरन से वंचित रहने वाला मनुष्य अगर) सारी धरती का राज भी करता रहे, तो भी आखिर मानस जीवन की बाजी हार के ही जाता है।1। हे नानक! (कह– हे भाई!) गुणों के खजाने हरी के गुण उस मनुष्य ने ही गाए हैं जिस पर हरी ने मेहर की है। वह मनुष्य सदा सुखी जीवन व्यतीत करता है, उसकी जिंदगी सदा मुबारिक होती है। ऐसे मनुष्य से कुर्बान होना चाहिए।2।2।

Todee, Fifth Mehla: Forgetting the Lord, one is ruined forever. How can anyone be deceived, who has Your Support, O Lord? ||Pause|| Without meditating in remembrance on the Lord, life is like a burning fire, even if one lives long, like a snake. One may rule over the nine regions of the earth, but in the end, he shall have to depart, losing the game of life. ||1|| He alone sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord, the treasure of virtue, upon whom the Lord showers His Grace. He is at peace, and his birth is blessed; Nanak is a sacrifice to him. ||2||2||

ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ! ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ। ਹੇ ਦੀਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰੇ ਉਤੇ) ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੀਜ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ।ਰਹਾਉ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਡਰ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ (ਸਦਾ) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।੧। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਈ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਸ ਰਹਿਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।੨। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕੀਤੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਵਿਚ) ਕੋਈ ਰੁਕਾਵਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ। ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਕੌਲ ਫੁੱਲਾਂ ਵਰਗੇ ਕੋਮਲ ਚਰਨ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਸਦਾ ਚੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ।੩। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ (ਹਰੇਕ) ਕਾਮਨਾ ਪੂਰੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ, ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ। ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ-) ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ (ਵਿਘਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਟਾਕਰੇ ਤੇ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਪੂਰੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਰੱਖੀ ਹੈ।੪।੧੪।੨੫।

सोरठि महला ५ ॥ प्रभ की सरणि सगल भै लाथे दुख बिनसे सुखु पाइआ ॥ दइआलु होआ पारब्रहमु सुआमी पूरा सतिगुरु धिआइआ ॥१॥ प्रभ जीउ तू मेरो साहिबु दाता ॥ करि किरपा प्रभ दीन दइआला गुण गावउ रंगि राता ॥ रहाउ ॥ सतिगुरि नामु निधानु द्रिड़ाइआ चिंता सगल बिनासी ॥ करि किरपा अपुनो करि लीना मनि वसिआ अबिनासी ॥२॥ ता कउ बिघनु न कोऊ लागै जो सतिगुरि अपुनै राखे ॥ चरन कमल बसे रिद अंतरि अम्रित हरि रसु चाखे ॥३॥ करि सेवा सेवक प्रभ अपुने जिनि मन की इछ पुजाई ॥ नानक दास ता कै बलिहारै जिनि पूरन पैज रखाई ॥४॥१४॥२५॥

अर्थ: हे प्रभू जी! तू मेरा मालिक है, तू मुझे सारी दातें देने वाला है। हे दीनों पर दया करने वाले प्रभू! (मेरे पर) मेहर कर, मैं तेरे प्रेम-रंग में रंग के तेरे गुण गाता रहूँ। रहाउ। हे भाई! जो मनुष्य पूरे गुरू का ध्यान धरता है, उस पर मालिक परमात्मा दयावान होता है (और, वह मनुष्य परमात्मा की शरण पड़ता है) परमात्मा की शरण पड़ने से उसके सारे डर उतर जाते हैं, सारे दुख दूर हो जाते हैं, वह (सदा) आत्मिक आनंद लेता है।1। हे भाई! जिस मनुष्य के हृदय में गुरू ने सारे सुखों का खजाना प्रभू-नाम पक्का कर दिया, उसकी सारी चिंताएं दूर हो गई। परमात्मा मेहर करके उसको अपना बना लेता है, उसके मन में नाश-रहित परमात्मा आ बसता है।2। हे भाई! अपने गुरू ने जिस मनुष्य की रक्षा की उसको (आत्मिक जीवन के रास्ते में) कोई रुकावट नहीं आती। परमात्मा के कमल-फूल जैसे कोमल चरण उसके हृदय में आ बसते हैं, वह मनुष्य आत्मिक जीवन देने वाला हरी-नाम-रस सदा चखता है।3। हे भाई! जिस परमात्मा ने (हर वक्त) तेरे मन की (हरेक) कामना पूरी की है, सेवक की तरह उसकी सेवा-भक्ति करता रह। हे दास नानक! (कह–) मैं उस प्रभू से सदके जाता हूँ, जिसने (विघनों से मुकाबले पर हर समय) पूरी तौर पर इज्जत बचा के रखी है।4।14।25।

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਲਧਾ ਜੀ ਰਾਮੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਰਾਮ ॥ ਇਹੁ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਦਿਤੜਾ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰਾ ਰਾਮ ॥ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਦਿਤਾ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਜਿਤਾ ਚੂਕੀ ਕਾਂਣਿ ਜਮਾਣੀ ॥ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਥੀਆ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਆ ਰਹਿਆ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੀ ॥ ਸੋ ਘਰੁ ਲਧਾ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਧਾ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰਾ ॥ ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਖਿ ਮਾਣੇ ਰਲੀਆਂ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੰਉ ਨਮਸਕਾਰਾ ॥੧॥

ਰਾਗ ਵਡਹੰਸ, ਘਰ ੪ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ‘ਛੰਤ’ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਹੀ) ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਲੱਭਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਲੱਭ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ) ਆਪਣਾ ਇਹ ਸਰੀਰ ਇਹ ਮਨ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣਾ ਤਨ ਮਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਨੂੰ ਜਿੱਤ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੁਥਾਜੀ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ (ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ) ਪੀਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ, ਅਡੋਲ-ਚਿੱਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਘਰ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ) ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ) ਆਸਰਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ-ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੁਖ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਹ ਸਾਰੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਹੈ) ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ (ਸਦਾ) ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ।੧।

गुर मिलि लधा जी रामु पिआरा राम ॥ इहु तनु मनु दितड़ा वारो वारा राम ॥ तनु मनु दिता भवजलु जिता चूकी कांणि जमाणी ॥ असथिरु थीआ अम्रितु पीआ रहिआ आवण जाणी ॥ सो घरु लधा सहजि समधा हरि का नामु अधारा ॥ कहु नानक सुखि माणे रलीआं गुर पूरे कंउ नमसकारा ॥१॥

राग वडहंस, घर ४ में गुरु अर्जनदेव जी की बानी ‘छंत’ अकाल पुरख एक है और सतगुरु की कृपा द्वारा मिलता है। हे भाई! गुरु को मिल कर (ही) प्यारा प्रभु प्राप्त होता है, (जिस को गुरु के द्वारा प्रभु मिल जाता है, वह) अपना यह तन यह मन (गुरु के) हवाले करता है। जो मनुख अपना तन मन गुरु के हवाले करता है, वह संसार-सागर को जीत लेता है, उस की जम्दूतों की मोहताजी ख़तम हो जाती है, वह मनुख आत्मिक जीवन देने वाला नाम-जल (गुरु से ले के) पिता है, और, सथिर-मन हो जाता है, उस के जनम मरण का चक्र समाप्त हो जाता है। उस मनुख को उस घर (गुरु के चरणों में) टिकाना मिल जाता है (जिस की बरकत से) वह आत्मिक अड़ोलता में लीं रहता है, परमात्मा का नाम (उस की जिन्दगी का आसरा बन जाता है। हे नानक! (कह) वह मनुख सुख में रह कर आत्मिक खुशियाँ मनाता है (यह साडी बरकत गुरु की ही है) पूरे गुरु को (सदा) नमस्कार करनी चाहिये।१।
